Full program for Shakespeare, I Love You: Pericles COMING SOON.

In the meantime, enjoy this information on the great companies involved:

Stephen F. Murray is a free-lance director who brings his unique brand of theatricality to Act I of Pericles. Set in a minimalist world, a mysterious story teller pulls items out of a trunk to create the story of our prince’s adventures. Actors move in and out of masks to create their characters as part of his ensemble driven approach.

Katie Graves and Matthew McMunn are dance artists. They have co-choreographed pieces for Red Tape Theatre’s Chicago Fringe Artist Networking Night, Laboratory Dancers’ Experiment #3.5, DanceWorks Chicago’s Dance Chance | October 2011, and Dance Crash’s Duets for My Valentine.  In this project, the couple abstract Shakespeare’s literature into movement by dissecting its structure, utilizing textual images, and navigating both written and implied events in Act II.

The Unrehearsed Shakespeare Company performs in the First Folio Cue Script Technique in Act III. Actors are given only their own lines and four syllables of cue before each line. They don’t know the play, the plot, or who even who is playing the other characters. They have only the Technique to guide them: inspired by Patrick Tucker’s “Secrets of Acting Shakespeare,” the Technique makes use of cues and clues within Elizabethan language, which tells an actor how to tell the story without a director’s orchestration. It’s an extraordinary combination of self-disciplined structure and chaotic collaboration.

Equity Library Theatre Chicagohas operated since 1955, in which time it has produced Shakespeare at the Chicago Cultural Center (as a founding “Resident Theatre”), Chicago Dramatists, many Chicago Park District parks, Wisdom Bridge Theatre,The North Lakeside Cultural Center, and many others.   Its mission is to provide new opportunities to showcase the talents of its members and to broaden the public audience. ELT CHicago will bring to life Pericles Act Four with a focus on the inescapable push and pull of the human conscience on our behavior.

Blunt Objects Theatre brings their distinct brand of raw minimalism to the final Act of Pericles.  Dedicated to creating theatre that is relevant to our time and place, Blunt Objects Theatre has been active since 2009, producing primarily original works and striving to keep theatre an accessible art form.  They are proud to be organizing this unique production and to help bring such a beautiful and oft-overlooked play to a contemporary audience.
